Theories on the Power of the "D" Clan

Shanks’ Mysterious Past: A Childhood in Mary Geoise?

After the Roger Pirates disbanded, each member went their own way. While some, like Rayleigh, chose a life of peace, others, like Oden, met tragic ends. But what about Shanks?

A new possibility arises—Shanks may have returned to his birthplace, Mary Geoise, after Roger’s execution.

Shanks’ Early Years in Mary Geoise

It’s widely speculated that Shanks has ties to the Figarland family, a noble lineage within the World Government. If this is true, then it makes sense that after Roger’s journey ended, Shanks returned to Mary Geoise and lived there for a significant period—possibly throughout his teenage years until he became a young man.

This idea is further supported by what Figarland Shamrock mentioned about Shanks in Chapter 1113:

“He has been to Mary Geoise before, but he chose to live among the common people.”

This suggests that at some point, Shanks was closely connected to the celestial world of the Holy Land. But why did he leave?

Why Did Shanks Abandon Mary Geoise?

Despite his noble bloodline, Shanks never seemed to share the ideals of the Celestial Dragons. He witnessed Roger’s journey firsthand, saw the truth of the world, and likely understood the corruption that ruled Mary Geoise.

Living among the Celestial Dragons, who view everyone else as lesser beings, would not have aligned with Shanks’ personality. He admired Roger, a man who valued freedom above all else.

At some point, Shanks made a choice—instead of remaining in the safety of Mary Geoise, he left that privileged world behind.

The Birth of the Red Hair Pirates

After leaving Mary Geoise, Shanks gathered his own crew—the Red Hair Pirates. Unlike other pirate groups, his crew was built on loyalty, camaraderie, and freedom, rather than greed or power.

This could explain why Shanks is one of the few Yonko who rarely comes into conflict with the Marines or the World Government. While pirates like Kaido and Big Mom sought to conquer, Shanks maintains a mysterious balance, almost as if he has an unspoken understanding with the powers that be.

Could this be because of his past ties to Mary Geoise? Does he still have connections in the highest ranks of the World Government?

Shanks: A Yonko Unlike Any Other

Shanks’ lack of hostility toward the World Government makes him stand out among the Four Emperors. He was able to meet with the Gorosei directly, something no other pirate has ever done. This level of access suggests that Shanks is no ordinary pirate—his past in Mary Geoise may grant him certain privileges that even the other Yonko don’t have.

But this raises an even bigger question—what is Shanks’ true goal?

Is he truly a pirate, or does he have a deeper role in the grand scheme of things?

Final Thoughts: The Secrets of Shanks’ Past

If Shanks grew up in Mary Geoise, then his journey is unlike any other pirate’s. He went from being raised among the elite rulers of the world to becoming one of the most powerful figures in the New World.

Yet, he rarely seeks conflict, avoids unnecessary wars, and even seems to mediate between pirates and the World Government.

Could it be that Shanks knows more about the truth of the world than anyone else? And if so, what role will he play in the final war to come?

What do you think? Is Shanks truly a pirate, or is he something more?

Let’s discuss!
